Because It's Called Thanks GIVING
In a panic because Thanksgiving is in a week? Terrified of braving the crowds at the grocery store, or you only have a teeny tiny oven to accommodate a big family? Wanting to give back but don’t know where to volunteer your time? Canyonhaus to the rescue with a few great places to get last minute Thanksgiving food, and a wonderful volunteer opportunity for the Venice Beach community. Because it’s called Thanks GIVING.
Akasha
Akasha Richmond’s Culver City restaurant offers an oven-ready brined turkey (with foolproof cooking instructions) that feeds 8 to 10 people, plus irresistible sides like cauliflower bisque, ciabatta bread stuffing with chestnut and sage, yams with orange and cinnamon, and cranberry chutney. Don't forget the apple-almond crisp and chocolate-bourbon banana cream pie for dessert!
The Larder
Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne’s farm-to-table mecca. Several locations around LA make it easy to grab and go without having to brave too much holiday traffic. Don't miss fall favorites like sourdough stuffing with turkey sausage, dates and cavolo nero (a variety of kale) and perfectly roasted root vegetables. If you can get your hands on their homemade egg nog, grab it!
Heirloom Catering
You can't go wrong at Heirloom, Chefs Matt Poley and Tara Maxey invented the "lasagne cupcake" (...don't miss the Pumpkin, Brown Butter and Sage variety - that's our fave ) and made them the launching pad for their wildly successful catering company. The food is prepared with love and you can taste it! Other top hits include the crispy cauliflower casserole and roasted yams with caramelized onions and home-made marshmallows. Call ahead and reserve mouth watering pies and salted chocolate chip cookies.
Little Doms
Los Feliz favorite Little Dom’s is offering whole deep-fried turkeys brown butter pumpkin and bourbon pecan pies, and sides like fennel Sausage stuffing and shaved Brussels sprouts salad, all available for pick up on Thanksgiving morning. If you plan on reserving one of those crackly fried turkeys, though, better call soon—supplies are limited.
Superba Food and Bread
You’ll find crowd-pleasing Thanksgiving take-out options include many sides which can be made vegetarian or dairy free upon request. Grab a rosemary-honey-brined turkey, or mix and match your meal with sides like green beans amandine and white cheddar mac and cheese. YUM!
Volunteer Opportunity - Lost Angels Non Profit Thanksgiving in Venice Beach
For the past 6 years, a large group of volunteers ranging from all ages come together to feed, clothe, and handout toiletries and many smiles to the less fortunate community of Venice Beach. We successfully have had over 300 volunteers each event and served over 350 people who may not have a family to spend the holidays with, and are living on the streets.
